Showing up in search

Everyone uses search engines to search for information on the web. Almost everyone uses Google. In fact, last month 72% of US searches were done using Google. I’ll confine my discussion of showing up in search to Google for simplicity.

Let’s look a a search engine results page of SERP. You have seen them many times but there is alot of info before your eyes which I’d like to have you notice. First lets get through the basic terminology…it’s pretty easy.

Keywords or search terms…those are the words people type into the search box before they hit search.

Pay per click. Those are the absolute genius of Google. You can purchase a little ad which runs when someone searches on a particular keyword phrase. Google only charges you when someone actually clicks on your ads. Most people guaranteeing Page 1 of Google placement are really saying they will buy Google Adwords for you to get your ad seen. It is great. These are called PPC or pay per click.

Google Local or Google Maps If you are a business selling in a particular area (rather than to anyone in the world, this is very good for you!

Google Organic search results. This is the most valuable real estate on the page. 80+of the clicks are here. People love visiting highly ranked organic websites. This is where you want to be! The gold.

You can show up in Google local search, Google PPC or Google organic or all of the above. You want to show up in the most important searches for your business.
